Fearless cameraman doesn’t even flinch after taking a football to the groin

With Kasey Redfern expected to miss the rest of the season, the Detroit Lions are hosting punter tryouts ahead of next week’s game against the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.

Redfern’s injury came after he dropped a snap on his second career punt in the first half.

The Lions have at least four punters in for a workout this afternoon: Former Miami Dolphins punter Matt Darr, who averaged 44.3 yards per punt last season; ex-Arizona Cardinals punter Drew Butler; Jeff Locke, who was taken 10 picks ahead of Sam Martin in the 2013 National Football League draft; and Richie Leone, who last kicked in the CFL.

The Lions immediately brought him to the training table and then carted him back to the locker room. Each of these injuries occurred on Redfern’s kicking leg as well. Redfern made the Lions after the franchise placed Martin on the NFI list on cut-down day.

Thanks to the absence of Redfern, the Lions operated without a true punter for most of the team’s Week 1 matchup against the aforementioned Cardinals. Caldwell doesn’t believe it will be a hard transition for Detroit’s coverage units. “It’s just a matter of a guy doing his job, plain and simple”. There will be some things he’s not going to know right away.

Asked if he was disappointed that Martin injured himself over the summer, Caldwell walked off the podium and ended his press conference.
